SRINAGAR, JULY 29: Peoples Democratic Party Legislators led by their leader Mehbooba Mufti today locked the main entrance of the Civil Secretariat at Srinagar and sat on a dharna. As per the Party handout, this was done to give the Government a taste of the siege, which the Government allegedly laid around every citizen of Kashmir.
Holding placards to highlight the atrocities on women, children and general public, the legislators demanded dismantling of repressive arrangements in place to muzzle the voice of people.
PDP president Mehbooba Mufti while speaking to the media persons said that Government had let loose a reign of terror and by its own account as many as 1400 teen agers have been arrested, even as the actual figure is much larger. She said the continued undeclared curfew and inhuman restrictions have converted the whole valley into a large prison. Demanding the immediate release of all the innocent persons, Mehbooba said the Government seems to be at war with its own people and it had lost all credibility and moral authority. The undue restrictions she said had brought life to a standstill and economic despair to entire society especially the weaker and the vulnerable sections.
Expressing the solidarity of her party with the people Mehbooba said that all the organizational units will contribute their mite to the relief effort and help in saving the poor from starvation. Mehbooba said the Government should lift the restrictions and release all the detainees before the holy month of Ramdhan.
