Border Villagers protest against Irrigation Department
7/29/2010 10:51:42 PM

Poonch, JULY 29: Irked by the neglect attitude of the Irrigation Department of not timely taking up flood control measures, residents of the border villages of Poonch held Irrigation Department responsible for the current flood like situation in their areas.
Residents of Dhegwar, Gulpur and Ajote of Poonch District today protested against the Irrigation Department and alleged that the X-en of the Irrigation and Flood Control Department is directly responsible for the losses.
Addressing protesters, Mohammed Khaliq said, "We, the villagers repeatedly met with officials of the Irrigation Department and apprised them our problems but officers did not pay any heed and bothered to visit the site and redress our grievances".
He said, "If protection wall had been constructed on Betar Nallah and some other floods control measures taken up in time then this type of the ugly situation was not to come in front of them". After the protest, people came to Deputy Commissioner Office, Poonch and submitted a copy of the memorandum to him against the Irrigation Department but Deputy Commissioner was not present in his office at that time.
