JAMMU, APR 25:
National Mazdoor Conference (NMC) today urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to declare the International Workers Day as a gazetted holiday across the country as a befitting tribute to the May Day martyrs.
“We urge the prime minister to declare May Day as a gazetted holiday throughout the country under the Negotiable Instrument Act as a befitting tribute to the May Day martyrs and recognizing the valuable contribution of the working class in the all-round development of the country,” NMC President Subash Shastri said in a memorandum sent to the prime minister today.
He said because of the May Day martyrs, the working class got their rights across the world and India being the largest and most vibrant democracy and the frontline welfare state should also declare May 1 as gazetted holiday.
This will be a great gesture and will fulfill the most genuine and long-pending demands of the working class, Shastri said and hoped that the NDA government at the Centre will concede the long-pending demand of working class and declare the May Day as a national holiday.
Emphasizing on the need for total exemption of Dearness Allowance (DA) from the ambit of Income Tax, Shastri also urged Prime Minister to reconsider the practice and take early decision in this regard, so that confusion and uncertainty among employees and pensioners of the Central and State Governments will come to end. Shastri that the price escalation and massive inflation in the country is directly linked with the DA of the salaried class and pensioners, adding that it was strange that the income tax is also imposed on the increase of the salaries because of Dearness Allowance (DA).
In the memorandum Shastri reminded Modi led NDA Govt. at the centre to full fill its election promises and adopt a realistic approach to solution of salaried/working class problems of the country.
